The BTC Board of Trustees was delighted to announce the appointment of the Rev Dr Timothy Harris as the first Dean of Bishopdale Theological
College in 2008.
Tim previously resided in Adelaide, South Australia where he was the senior minister of the Kensington-Norwood
Anglican Team Ministry, having been the Rector of St
Matthew’s Kensington since 1995 and the priest
in charge of St Bartholomew’s, Norwood from 2003.
He was also Archdeacon for Mission, Evangelism and Church
Growth for the Diocese of Adelaide. |
| Tim’s impressive academic credentials
include a BA in Ancient History from Macquarie University,
BTH (Hons) from the Australian College of Theology, DipArts
(Hons) from Moore Theological College, MTh for the Australian
College of Theology and a PhD from Flinders University.
His topic for his Master’s Thesis was ‘God’s
People in the New Covenant: A Study in Aspects of a Pauline
Theology of Identity’ and Tim’s doctoral Thesis
was on ‘The Subversion of Status: Pauline notions
of humility and deference in Graeco-Roman perspective,
with special reference to Stoicism and Epictetus’.
As well as lecturing and tutoring on a part time basis
in theological institutions since 1990, Tim is currently
a New Testament Moderator for the Australian College of Theology.
Tim has been involved in parish ministry since 1985, has
led three short-term ministry teams to Nepal and has been
the Guest Speaker at various clergy conferences, societies,
mission agencies and parishes. Tim’s hobbies and
special interests include woodwork, photography, watching
movies, and ‘mucking around in boats’.
Tim was born in Auckland where he attending St. Kentigern’s
School. He moved with his family to Sydney, aged ten.
Tim’s wife, Fiona was born in England and immigrated
to Australia with her family as a four year old. She is
trained as an early childhood teacher, but has spent most
of her working life as a parish administrator. Fiona is
an artist, specialising in naïve art. She also has
a special interest in the ministry of spiritual retreats
for women.
Tim and Fiona have three adult children. The eldest, Daniel, is ICT manager for Baptist Community Services in
South Australia. He is married to Phili, a doctor. Their
middle child is Jonathan, who lives at home and attends
a range of day option programs in Nelson for adults with intellectual disability.
Jess is at Adelaide University, studying
history, anthropology and classics. She remains in
Adelaide, and in 2008 co-lead a diocesan youth pilgrimage
to Kenya and Cairo.
Tim took up the position of Dean of the College in May
2008. The College was officially
opened on the 17th February 2008.
