Degree and Diploma qualifications
Bishopdale Theological College teaches and provides face-to-face tutorials for students of the Bachelor of Theology and Bachelor of Ministries Degrees from Laidlaw College (both are three years fulltime or the equivalent). Most courses are offered through
the Laidlaw College Centre for Distance Learning,
with BTC providing teaching and tutorials for the
courses we offer. BTC also present some courses on
a fully taught local basis but only at the Nelson site.
These courses may also be taken toward a Diploma
in Biblical Studies or Graduate Diploma in Theology
from Laidlaw College (one year fulltime or the
equivalent).
Graduate Diploma in Theology (Ministry)
BTC is leading the way with a special version of
the Graduate Diploma designed for those with
an existing qualification in theology wanting to
undertake more advanced and specialised studies in
areas in both theology and ministry development.
Within this framework, a selection of courses
is being created specifically addressing areas of
innovative and pioneering Anglican ministry.
When taken for academic credit towards a Graduate
Diploma qualification (through Laidlaw College),
a total of 120 credit points (8 courses) is required,
selected from a specific range of course offerings and
customised on a case by case basis.
In most instances these courses will be offered as one week block intensives. Courses may be also undertaken on a non-formal basis.
Classes & tutorials held on campus are important to
Bishopdale Theological College’s ministry. They are
an opportunity to engage with issues and questions
raised by the material being studied. Through
discussion facilitated by skilled teachers/tutors, and
additional explanations provided by them, students
will be encouraged to increase their theological
knowledge and understanding.
Courses which Bishopdale does not offer may still be taken through the Centre for Distance Learning, which provides online tutoring.
BTC provides degree level courses for those who may wish to apply for ordination within the Anglican Church of Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia, and in particular, the Diocese of Nelson, which is strongly evangelical. However, the courses we tutor are open to anyone from any denomination.
Bible College courses attract all forms
of student funding supplied by the New Zealand Government.

Bishopdale Theological College is not a residential
college but it will seek to foster community life among
students and staff. Opportunities for shared meals,
and for community worship will be a core part of the
college's programme.
